Site Specific Art @ WVC

Today the Viking Grove was transformed into a massive outdoor exhibition space.  The work, “Send Silence Packing” displayed 1,100 backpacks, representing the 1,100 college students who die by suicide every year.  Members of the exhibit’s sponsor, Active Minds were on hand to answer questions and share information.

Not only was the exhibit extraordinarily powerful and informative but also served as a fine example of site specific / environmental / public art.  The average in-coming community college student’s understanding of art is often limited to Platonic definitions.  This exhibit plainly demonstrated the unique potential of site specific / environmental / public art.
